The sculpture Maktub_It is written, created by Lorenzo Quinn in 2024, is a large-scale work that embodies the concept of destiny through bronze and stainless steel. “Maktub” is a word of Arabic origin meaning “it is written.” It refers to destiny, to the idea that when two souls are meant to meet, the universe conspires to make it happen. In this sculpture by Lorenzo Quinn, the message is translated into a balanced, symbolic, and powerful composition, where the form expresses union, connection, and transcendence.

The piece combines polished bronze and stainless steel, creating a dialogue between sculptural tradition and contemporary language. Bronze, a historic material in artistic sculpture, adds weight, permanence, and depth. Stainless steel introduces a modern, reflective, and clean aesthetic.

The final patinated and mirror-polished finish reinforces the character of the work. At Capa Esculturas, we had the honor of producing the complete work, applying our expertise in bronze casting to this sculpture. The piece was created using the lost wax casting technique, a traditional method that guarantees maximum fidelity in detail and structural precision.

One of the main technical challenges was the structural integration between bronze and stainless steel, ensuring stability, balance, and durability in this 285 cm sculpture. The technical team meticulously worked on the internal joints and anchoring systems to maintain the formal purity designed by the artist.

This work is not only a bronze sculpture, but also a piece laden with symbolism. It represents destiny as an inevitable force and transforms an abstract idea into a monumental physical presence.
