The favorite tennis players to conquer the Mutua Trophy 2025

In the men’s draw, Alexander Zverev arrives as number one in the ranking, followed by Carlos Alcaraz, two-time Mutua Madrid Open champion in 2022 and 2023. They are joined by players such as Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev, the last champion of the tournament.

In the women’s category, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek lead the list of favorites, along with Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys. In 2024, Iga Swiatek won, and will be looking to defend her title in this edition.

David Rodríguez Caballero: the artist behind the Mutua Madrid Open Trophy

Since 2022, the Mutua Madrid Open trophy has borne the signature of sculptor and friend David Rodríguez Caballero. In his fourth collaboration with the tournament, the artist has opted for a piece of contemporary art, classic symbolism and sporting essence. This year, the trophy is called “Kineo”, a work that stands out for its rounded but irregular shape, evoking the dynamism and energy that characterize tennis.

Rodríguez Caballero himself, the sculptor of the trophy, explains that “Kineo” means “movement” in ancient Classical Greece, which refers to the dynamism inherent in tennis and the way athletes move on the court.

The sculpture was designed based on the volumetry of a sphere, which evokes the shape of a tennis ball, one of the most symbolic elements of this sport. Through a structure of three-dimensional folds, David Rodríguez Caballero has managed to create multiple spaces within the piece, providing a visual and emotional impact to the viewers.

The materials used in this edition of the trophy are stainless steel and symbolically silver and gold, which add an extra dimension of elegance and value to the piece. The spherical shape of the trophy, considered one of the most perfect in nature, has a strong visual impact, leading the viewer to experience an immediate connection with the work.

Kineo, the trophy design in 2025

The Kineo trophy stands out for its rounded but irregular structure, a design that reflects the movement, fluidity and constant evolution that characterize tennis.

In this edition, David Rodríguez Caballero wanted to offer something more than a tennis trophy, transforming it into a sculpture that becomes a reflection of the strength and energy of elite players. Every detail of the work invites us to reflect on the connection between the concentration, faith and determination that drive tennis players to rise to victory and obtain the trophy of champions.

The manufacture of the Kineo Trophy in Capa Sculptures

The Kineo trophy is produced by Capa Esculturas, a Spanish foundry specializing in artistic sculpture and metalwork. Unlike previous editions, where cast iron was used, this time the piece is created from meticulously cut, welded and sanded stainless steel sheets. The process involves a series of steps such as cutting the steel sheets, welding the pieces, cleaning the welds, sanding to obtain a smooth surface, and final patination to give it the desired look.

The metalwork makes it possible to create a lighter sculpture, with precise details and a dynamic shape that reflects the spirit of tennis. Thanks to this production process, the Kineo trophy acquires a unique presence, with a robust structure and refined aesthetics. In addition, details have been incorporated to visually enhance the piece, giving it an elegant and modern finish.

A tennis trophy turned into a work of art

The Mutua 2025 Trophy is not just an award. It is a sculpture 42 centimeters high, made of stainless steel, with interior planes that play with light and emptiness. The base has been eliminated to make the piece more compact, making it easier to lift during the award ceremony and more directly connected to the gesture of victory.

The importance of sculptural design in modern sport

Increasingly, sports trophies are evolving into pieces of art with their own identity. Far from generic designs, nowadays, the aim is to transmit values, emotions and culture through personalized sculptures that give prestige to the event and connect with the public.
