6 May 2018 marked a special moment for Capa Esculturas, Javier Molina Gil and the Soliss Foundation<\/a>. Together, they participated in the creation of a statue dedicated to Federico Mart\u00edn Bahamontes, the legendary cyclist known as \u2018The Eagle of Toledo\u2019. The statue, which stands 1.90 metres high and is located on the Paseo de El Miradero in Toledo, pays tribute to Bahamontes as the first Spaniard to win the Tour de France in 1959.<\/p>\n\n

An act of vandalism<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Unfortunately, the statue of Bahamontes was vandalised in the early hours of 28 July 2019. This incident left the sculpture damaged, which generated great concern in the community and among the entities responsible for its care.<\/p>\n\n

Urgent repair<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The Toledo City Council and the Soliss Foundation quickly mobilised to request the urgent repair of the statue, especially due to a cycling event that was scheduled for 13 September, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Bahamontes’ triumph in the Tour de France.<\/p>\n\n

Commitment and restoration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

In response to this urgent request, Capa Esculturas made a full commitment to restore the statue in a timely manner. With a dedicated and meticulous effort, the complete restoration of the sculpture and its subsequent installation was carried out, ensuring that it was ready for the cycling event and to honour the legacy of Bahamontes.<\/p>\n\n

A permanent tribute<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The restoration of the Bahamontes statue was not only an act of physical reparation, but also an ongoing tribute to the iconic figure of Spanish cycling. The statue now stands as an eternal reminder of the achievements and greatness of \u2018The Eagle of Toledo\u2019, inspiring present and future generations.<\/p>\n\n
